MaintSpace glossary

This glossary explains key terms used in MaintSpace. Use it as a reference to better understand how the system works and how different concepts are connected.

Aircraft

An individual aircraft in your fleet.
Each aircraft has its own registration, status, and maintenance history.


Aircraft model

A template used to define shared structure across multiple aircraft.
Includes maintenance schedules and configurations reused across aircraft.


Item

A defined part in your inventory system.
Represents a part number, not a physical unit.


Stock

The physical quantity of an item available in inventory.
Tracks how many units you have and where they are located.


Serialized item

A uniquely tracked item with a serial number.
Each unit is tracked individually for traceability.


Batch (lot)

A group of items with the same origin or production details.
Used to track expiry, documentation, and traceability.


Quarantine

A status used to isolate items that cannot be used.
Prevents non-compliant or uncertain parts from entering operations.


Component

A part installed on an aircraft and tracked over time.
Includes lifecycle, usage, and maintenance tracking.


Maintenance schedule

A recurring maintenance requirement.
Defines what needs to be done and when (time, hours, or cycles).


Work package

A group of maintenance tasks planned together.
Used to organize and prepare work before execution.


Work order

A specific maintenance task to be executed.
Used to perform and document work.


Defect

An issue or discrepancy found on an aircraft.
Tracked until resolved through maintenance.


Time entry

A record of time spent on maintenance work.
Used for documentation and tracking labor.


Tool usage

A record of tools used during maintenance work.
Supports traceability and compliance.


Purchase order

A request sent to a supplier to order parts.
Defines what is ordered, in what quantity, and at what cost.


Invoice

A document from a supplier requesting payment.
Used to track costs and verify purchases.


Exchange rate

A value used to convert between currencies.
Ensures accurate cost tracking across suppliers.


Supplier

A company that provides parts or services.
Used in purchasing workflows.


Technical record

Documentation related to maintenance activities.
Stored for compliance, audits, and historical reference.


Airworthiness directive (AD)

A mandatory requirement issued by aviation authorities.
Defines actions needed to maintain safety and compliance.


Personnel authorization

Defines what work a person is allowed to perform.
Ensures only qualified personnel carry out maintenance.


FlightLogger Sync

Integration between FlightLogger and MaintSpace.
Synchronizes flight data to support maintenance planning.


Kiosk screen

A shared display showing operational data.
Used to provide real-time visibility to teams.


Role

Defines what a user can access and do in the system.
Controls permissions across modules.


User

A person with access to MaintSpace.
Assigned roles and permissions based on responsibilities.
