How to track airworthiness directives

Tracking airworthiness directives (ADs) ensures that all mandatory requirements are identified, planned, and completed. Use AD tracking to maintain compliance and ensure aircraft safety.

When to track airworthiness directives

You should track ADs when:

  • A new directive is issued by an authority (e.g. EASA or FAA)
  • An AD applies to your aircraft or components
  • Compliance needs to be documented

Tracking ensures that no required actions are missed.

Add and track an AD

Follow these steps to track an airworthiness directive:

1. Go to Engineering → Airworthiness Directives
2. Click “New AD” (or similar)
3. Enter AD details (reference, description, authority)
4. Link the AD to relevant aircraft or components
5. Set status and compliance requirements
6. Save the AD

What to include

When registering an AD, include:

  • Reference number – Official AD identifier
  • Authority – Issuing body (e.g. EASA, FAA)
  • Description – What the AD requires
  • Applicability – Which aircraft or components are affected
  • Compliance requirements – What must be done and when

Clear information ensures correct handling.

Planning compliance

Once an AD is registered:

  • Create a work order or work package
  • Schedule the required work
  • Prepare parts and resources

This ensures compliance actions are carried out on time.

Updating AD status

As work is performed, update the AD status:

  • Open / Pending – Not yet addressed
  • In progress – Work is ongoing
  • Complied – All requirements completed

Always keep status up to date for visibility.

Recording compliance

After completing the required work:

  • Link the AD to the completed work order
  • Upload supporting documentation
  • Ensure compliance is clearly recorded

This is essential for audits and inspections.

How ADs fit your workflow

Airworthiness directives connect engineering and maintenance:

AD identified → Registered → Work planned → Work executed → Compliance recorded

Tips

  • Review new ADs regularly
  • Link ADs to all applicable aircraft or components
  • Track deadlines carefully
  • Keep documentation complete and accessible
