How to log and track defects

Defects allow you to record issues found on an aircraft and ensure they are resolved. Use defects to track problems, plan corrective actions, and maintain safe and compliant operations.

When to log a defect

You should log a defect when:

  • A fault or issue is discovered on an aircraft

  • Something does not meet expected condition

  • A discrepancy is identified during inspection or operation

Logging defects ensures issues are tracked and not overlooked.

Log a defect

Follow these steps to create a defect:

1. Go to Maintenance Planning → Defects
2. Click “New Defect”
3. Select the aircraft
4. Describe the issue
5. Set priority or severity (if applicable)
6. Save the defect

What to include in a defect

A defect should clearly describe the issue.

Include:

  • Aircraft – Where the issue was found

  • Description – What the problem is

  • Location or component – Where on the aircraft

  • Priority – How urgent it is

Clear descriptions help ensure correct handling.

Tracking defects

Once a defect is logged, you can:

  • Monitor its status

  • Link it to a work order

  • Track progress until it is resolved

This ensures that all issues are properly handled.

Resolving defects

To resolve a defect:

  • Create or link a work order

  • Perform the required maintenance

  • Update the defect status once completed

Always ensure the issue is fully resolved before closing it.

How defects fit your workflow

Defects are part of your operational flow:

Defect identified → Logged in system → Work order created → Work completed → Defect resolved

This ensures that no issue is missed.

Tips

  • Log defects as soon as they are identified

  • Use clear and detailed descriptions

  • Link defects to work orders for traceability

  • Review open defects regularly
